Refrain

I was a little late on the draw this week.  The Illustration Friday prompt was “refrain”.

This is what I came up with:

Refrain

It turns out the word is derived from the latin term meaning, roughly, “to check (hold back) a horse using a bridle.”  So that’s what I tried to show.  I used a sculpture by Bayre as inspiration.

The picture’s bold but sloppy.  The piece would have benefited from a little more deliberate line work and some more detailed coloring that better defined the masses of the horse’s muscles.  Well, maybe next time.

For now, enjoy.  I hope to get a few more pictures posted before too long … they’re just waiting to see the light of day.

  1. I like the fade of the rider, and how he simply exists in the background with less focus. Also love the gradient of the sky.

  2. Nice horse. I can see the motion.
